Head keeps pounding maybe I should pound a beer
Kiss the wife and kid goodbye, all my love I'm out of here.
Scrape off all the ice and snow, unlock those frozen doors
As I sit and warm her up I dream of nights I'm out on tour. But I'm
Heading for my job where I'll be slaving for my pay
And trying to convince myself there'll be a better day.

Just yesterday I took my kid down to the park
It was cold and still we laughed and played till it was getting dark
We got got home my Love had put our dinner on the plate
And after with the kid asleep we stayed up drinking late.
Hate this goddamned job but I love my family
I'm good out on the road but then they're way too far from me.
Like disembodied voices, just phantoms on the phone
The only things in this whole world can make me pine for home.

So I plug along I work this job I stick near our hometown
I play bars and pubs and backyards where we pass the flask around.
But someday when the kid is grown, with my darlin’ on the road
We'll play every goddamned city from LA to Buffalo.
